Part of overbridge in Andheri railway station collapses, rail services hit

 

The pedestrian section of an road overbridge collapsed on the railway track between Andheri and Vile Parle in Mumbai at 7.30 a.m. on Tuesday.Four fire engines were pressed into service and fire brigade officials rescued one person from the debris. Search operation was on.Railway officials said services, including long distance trains, wouldl be affected for some hours.While a Western Railway spokesman said the bridge came under the jurisdiction of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the civic body claimed it was a railway property.Due to the collapse, the overhead wires of all six railway lines have been affected. Owing to the incident, people travelling from Andheri East to Andheri West will need to use the Andheri subway. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has tweeted that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident and officials directed to expedite repair work and restore traffic.
