Ganderbal , Jul 3: The traffic on Srinagar-Leh Highway was disrupted for some time on Tuesday evening due to landslides at various places along highway triggered by heavy rains, officials said.
They said that due to incessant rains that lashed valley on Tuesday evening, landslide occurred at Sumbal Bala, Aku Gund and Bajri Nallah along Sgr-Leh highway due to which the road remained blocked for hours.
Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides on the highway.
SHO Police Station Gund Syed Arif Bukhari said that Police with the help of BRO cleared the debris from road at Sumbal Bala and Aku Gund and restored traffic including those vehicles carrying Amarnath pilgrims.
“The highway was thrown open for vehicular movement after some hours”, he said.
Meanwhile, a traffic official said that due to incessant rains, a landslide occurred at Bajri Nallah near Zojilla pass thereby closing Sgr-Leh highway due to which traffic remained suspended on both sides of the highway.
He said that BRO has pressed men and machinery to clear the road as soon as possible. However the road was yet to clear when last reports came in.
