Directs for strict action against those who encroach embankments of River Jhelum
Srinagar, Jul 4: Farooq Ahmad Shah IAS who has served various departments so far was given charge of Secretary Public Health Engineering (PHE) Irrigation and Flood Control Department at a time when the flood threat was looming in the Valley triggered due to the heavy rainfall.
Farooq Shah is known for his immense administrative skills which he exhibited to revive the derailed tourism sector in 2002 onwards he was given assignments of different departments and served as DC Anantnag, Srinagar in difficult times.
As secretary Tourism, he managed the fund flow from the centre and paved way for reconstruction of devastated tourism infrastructure post deluge of 2014.
Again he was given the charge of Education Secretary when most of the schools were shut and students were out on roads.
Shah’s skills got the students back in the schools and his tireless efforts resulted in stabilization of educational atmosphere in the Valley.
People here are hopeful with high expectations from this public servant to address the larger issues in the PHE Irrigation and Flood Control sector.
Meanwhile, Shah took over as the Secretary PHE I&FC and handed over the charge of Secretary Education to Rigzian Sampheal.
He also held a detailed meeting with the officers of the department and also directed them to act tough against the encroachers of embankments.
Shah has also discussed the short term and long term measures with the officers here.
Talking to a news agency, Shah said that the encroachments along embankments of River Jhelum and streams won’t be allowed at any cost. (KNS)
