Bharatiya Janata Party maintaining silence over its senior leader Chaudary Lal Singh’s threat to journalists in Kashmir has created a notion that the saffron party endorses his (Singh’s) view.
The former BJP minister had recently asked the scribes in Kashmir to draw a line and had cited the example of Shujaat’s assassination to threaten the media men in the Valley.
His threat evoked widespread condemnation from all the sections of the society and everyone was of the opinion that Lal Singh should be booked for threatening the journalists so that it serves as a deterrent for others. However, leaders of the saffron party did not utter a word and allowed Singh to carry on with his threats.
The utterances of the former minister have added to the prevailing fear and have made journalists more vulnerable. It’s unfortunate that the BJP leader played politics over Shujaat’s gruesome murder and his party allowed him to carry on.
After addressing the news conference in Jammu, Singh took to the twitter and launched a scathing attack on the Kashmir based scribes.
There is no doubt about the fact that Kashmir has been the most difficult place for the journalists to work in as they have been reporting the conflict for the past 30-years. They have been caught between the guns and have been treading a difficult path. It’s not for the first time that Lal Singh has stirred the Hornet’s nest. His political career has been marred by the controversies as a politician and the minister has always hogged the headlines for the wrong reasons. BJP should clear its stand over Lal Singh’s threat to Kashmiri journalists if it fails to do so it will be clear that party endorses what Singh has said.
