Srinagar, Jun 25: To foil protest march in summer capital of Srinagar, police put under house arrest chairmen of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq while Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik was detained.
A HC spokesman said a large number of security forces and state police personnel have been deployed outside the Nigeen house of Mirwaiz since early Monday morning. Mirwiaz was informed that he cannot leave till further orders since he has been put under house arrest, he said.
Similarly Geelani also remained under house arrest, a spokesman of Hurriyat (G) said adding security forces and state police personnel remained deployed outside his Hyderpora residence.
A spokesman of the front said a large number of police and security force personnel arrested Malik from his Maisuma residence near here Monday morning. Though no reasons was given for the arrest, Malik was arrested and detained in police station Kothibagh to prevent him from leading a protest march in Srinagar against civilian killings in security force action and Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the valley.
However, officials said the arrest was made to prevent any law and order problem.
