DC Kulgam reviews disaster preparedness

Kulgam, Jun 22: District Development Commissioner Kulgam, Sajad Hussain, convened a meeting to review the disaster preparedness and management in the district here today.
During the meeting, DDC informed that three disaster management control rooms are being established at Kund, Manzgam and DH Pora with requisite infrastructure and communication network. Moreover, directions were passed to the concerned departments to nominate nodal officers at district, tehsil and department levels.
The DDC was informed that 300 registered volunteers have been trained besides some officers under GRF arranged by the Civil Defence with required equipment are lying at DPL store Kulgam.
The DDC, who is also Chairman of DMA, issued instructions to the departments that action plans in this regard must be submitted and mock drills must also be conducted in this regard.
Need for wireless sets was also highlighted besides seeking action plan from all stakeholders within next 15 days besides conducting joint mock drill to create awareness among the general public was discussed threadbare.
The DDC also reviewed the stocking of essential items like sandbags, edible items, rescue operation equipment available in different departments. He sought the requisition lists from the concerned and enjoined upon the officers to keep men and machinery ready to meet any eventuality.
He was informed that around 108 schools have been identified who are Geo mapped and would be used for safe evacuation of vulnerable people.
The meeting was attended by ADDC Khawaja Nazir Ahmad, ACD Parvaiz Ahmad Raina, ACR, representatives of 9RR, CRPF 18 battalion, All Tehsildars, Xens of PDD, PHE, PWD, and other district officers associated with the disaster management campaigns at various levels in the district.
