Omar playing smart

National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah seems very keen on Jammu and Kashmir assembly being dissolved. He has reiterated his demand that decision to put assembly under suspended animation should be revisited and process for holding new elections should begin.
Omar is aware about the fact that his party can cash the anti-incumbency wave and woo the voters by highlighting the failures of the PDP-BJP coalition. The another thing which would be going in his mind will be that if elections are deferred for long it would give a chance to PDP to regroup and make people believe that it had entered into an alliance with the BJP for the sake of people and it tried it best to convince New Delhi to hold talks with the separatists and Pakistan. PDP would also try its best to sell the one-month ceasefire which Centre had announced in the holy month of Ramadan.
Another apprehension which Omar has cited is that BJP may indulge in “horse trading” and it could to the confusion. Since yesterday BJP leaders are claiming that they want to establish a “rule of law” in Kashmir and elections are not a priority but speculations are rife that BJP may be up to something.
Omar is playing smart by seeking dissolution of the J&K Assembly. He knows that NC can emerge as a major player in the state and would be able to call the shots. He (Omar) doesn’t want to give PDP a chance to recollect itself. By ditching PDP the Bharatiya Janata Party has dealt a severe blow on the party and Opposition wants to take full advantage of it. But Omar knows it better than anyone else that it’s New Delhi which decides the fate of politicians in J&K.
