Srinagar, Jun 5: The poll arrangements for 2019 big poll battle across India is likely to begin in Jammu and Kashmir with a meeting over the polling facilities for disabled persons to be presided over by the Chief Electoral Officer Shalin Kabra.
Talking to a news agency, Shalin Kabra said the election department is holding a meeting with NGOs (Non Governmental Organisations) to discuss polling arrangements for the disabled persons in Jammu and Kashmir state.
However, in reply to a question on the possibility of by-polls for Anantnag Parliamentary constituency countermanded last year, Kabra said “there is no proposal or process under consideration of the election department for the conduct of by-polls to the Anantnag parliamentary constituency.”
Meanwhile, top officials of the revenue department on conditions on anonymity said that a meeting called by the chief electoral officer and likely to be attended by all the deputy commissioners is expected to discuss the working of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. “As a follow up Deputy Commissioners will in their respective districts will discuss the functionality of the EVMs in the 2019 parliamentary elections in the coming few months,” sources added.
It is in place to mention here that this is the major exercise taken up by the election department ahead of 2019 parliamentary elections. (KNS)
