Police seize 100 bags of rice meant for public distribution, one arrested


Poonch, May 31: A ration dealer was arrested today on charges of black marketing rice meant for public distribution in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Acting on a specific information, a police team headed by SHO Surankote under the supervision of SSP Poonch raided a private shop at Dani Dhara Gunthal village in Surankote and arrested the dealer.
He was involved in selling the government rice in the open market, Station House Officer (SHO) Surankote Mohd Anzar Mir said.
100 bags of rice, each weighing 50 kg, were seized on the spot, the officer said.
The officer said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations were taken up.
The officer said that a number of officials of the civil supplies and consumer affairs department are under scanner. (GNS)
