Tourism deptt to track development of projects, tourist inflow through MIS

Srinagar, May 28: In order to obtain information needed for effective decision making for sustainable tourism, the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department is planning to put in place a robust Management Information System (MIS) by the end of July this year to track real-time development and pace of ongoing works in the state.
“The department will use this state of art information technology tool to speed up various development projects under the Government of India and state government schemes and will also track them,” a tourism department spokesperson said.
In this regard, he said the national informatics center has been deployed as nodal agency to develop a Programme Monitoring and Evaluation Software with some unique features.
He said in the new system, about 50 officials in various wings of the tourism department would be assigned separate login and passwords to submit their progress report by the seventh of every month.
“The data collected by designated officers would then be processed and evaluated for review by senior officers of the department and then submitted to Tourism Minister Tasaduq Mufti for final evaluations of progress,” he said.
He said the MIS would have features to rank tourism development authorities, directorates, and store real-time data on the number of tourist visiting various districts. “The project is likely to be operational but the end of July this year,” he added.
