3 army men injured, vehicle damaged in Shopian IED blast

Srinagar, May 28: Three army men were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast at Zainapora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.
Official sources said that militants had planted IED near water point at Sugan on Turkwangan road. Soon after the Casper of army’s 44 RR passed through the area, the militants triggered the blast resulting in injuries to three soldiers.
The vehicle also suffered damage, they said.
A police spokesman in a statement issued here said that the militants had planted an IED near the water tank which was set off early Monday morning when an Army vehicle was routinely passing through the area.
The vehicle suffered the damages due to the blast and the three Jawans inside the vehicle suffered injuries who were subsequently removed to hospital for medical attention, the spokesman said.
“It is learnt that the militants after triggering the blast escaped from the spot. Bomb Disposal Squad deployed at the site of the blast recovered a second IED from the site,” the spokesman said.
Police has registered a case in this regard and investigation is going on, the spokesman added. (GNS)
