Srinagar, May 27: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Sunday demanded immediate revocation of suspension of its President Dr Nisar ul Hassan.
Spokesperson DAK Dr Riyaz Ahmad Daga in a communique termed the continued suspension of DAK President as unjustified and illegal.
He said the protracted suspension of Dr Nisar is against Supreme Court judgment wherein a government employee cannot be kept under suspension for more than 90 days if he or she is not formally informed about the charges.
Apex court in a judgment has said that there should be an end to the practice of putting an employee on indefinite suspension as he or she has to face insinuation, scorn and derision before being formally charged.
Dr Nisar was suspended in May 2014 by the previous government for highlighting the illegal trade of spurious drugs in Kashmir valley to which many precious lives were lost.
“He unearthed a big fake drug scandal in 2013 in which some higher-ups were involved,” DAK stated.
“Lakhs of tablets of fake drug maximizin, a life-saving antibiotic were supplied to government hospitals. Following expose of this fake drug, hundreds of drugs which were consumed by patients were declared substandard,” the statement added.
In this connection, he filed a Public Interest Litigation in State High Court in which many people are facing prosecution.
Dr Riyaz said his endeavours in this connection should have been applauded, but instead false and frivolous cases were fabricated against him.
He was victimized for raising voice against the crimes committed on the society.
It is an inherent right of a citizen to inform and sensitize the general masses of people about the insidious machinations of the powers that be.
His suspension has given untold sufferings to his family and patients who were under his treatment and follow up. (GNS)
