Ramadhan an opportunity to get closer to Allah: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, May 24: Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman and patron of Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq termed the month of Ramadhan as full of blessings and a great opportunity for the believers to get closer to Almighty Allah and seek His forgiveness.
He said Ramadhan doesn’t only mean to avoid eating foot from dawn to dusk but also to introspect and to follow the same path in rest of the eleven months of the year.
According to a statement, Mirwaiz while addressing a gathering at Jamia Ahlihadith Wanganpora, Eidgah, in connection with the Ashra-e-Rehmat (first ten days of Ramadhan), said the sacred month provides a great chance to the believers to know their responsibilities towards religion and also to their society. The month, he said, teaches brotherhood, harmony and unity to face the challenges in the society collectively to ensure a constructive society.
Shedding light on the basic concept of fasting, Mirwaiz said that the month teaches believers Taqwa and guidance to fight temptation. He said the great month also provides a chance to the faithful to help poor, destitute and downtrodden people and to earn a great reward here and hereafter. (GNS)
