Modi Govt miserably failed to safeguard lives of border residents: Monga

Srinagar, May 23: Stating that deaths of jawans and civilians on the borders have become a regular feature ever since the NDA Government came to power at Centre, State Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) vice president and MLC G N Monga today said that the Narendra Modi-led Government has miserably failed to safeguard the lives of border residents.
Reminding the BJP leadership of its pre-election rhetoric on the subject, Monga asked why the ceasefire violations have not come to an end after the NDA Government came to power, as was promised so ostentatiously by the Prime Minister before the Lok Sabha elections.
“Every day, security forces personnel and civilians are dying on border due to repeated ceasefire violations. The increase in ceasefire violations and violence in Kashmir has been the outcome of the weak and flawed policies of both Central and State Governments,” he said in a statement issued to press in Srinagar.
“People in the country are asking questions to those who used to flaunt ‘Chhappan Inch Chhati’ (56 inch chest). Failure of the NDA Government is visible as hostilities with neighbouring country have only increased in the last four years. It seems that Pakistan is taking the BJP government non-seriously and is hell bent on creating tension in border areas,” Mona said.
“The intense shelling has resulted in large scale displacement of population, especially those living near the Line of Control and International Border,” he said and added the continuous shelling and firing on the border has resulted in killings, destruction of property, closure of educational institutions and immense hardships to poor people.
The Congress leader said that the Center Government has no roadmap whatsoever to deal with this recurring problem. “It is high time that the BJP leadership instead of making tall claims in the media, come to the rescue of the thousands of border dwellers whose life has become hell in the last nearly four years of BJP rule.” (KNS)
