Locals seek widening of Chirhama-Malpora stretch
Anantnag, May 14: Residents of this south Kashmir district have urged the authorities to immediately take up the road widening of Chirhama-Lalpora-Hanji Danter- Nawathoo.
They said that the widening of the 3.5 kilometer stretch from Achabal Adda to Malpora in Anantnag district has been shelved.
“Though the locals of Hanji Danter, Nawathoo and Lalpora are completely in favor of the road widening but the authorities are not taking up the work on this stretch for unknown reasons,” said Ab Khaliq Parray, a resident of Nawathoo.
He said that the narrow road stretch witnesses heavy traffic jams and also makes the movement of the pedestrians difficult and hence its widening would have eased the sufferings of passengers as well as pedestrians.
“As the road is part of National Highway A1, connects Qazigund, Devsar tehsils and many tourist spots with Anantnag town and leads to the district hospital, so the district administration should immediately remove the bottlenecks if any and direct the R&B to take up and accomplish the work immediately,” said the residents.
The residents further said that the widening would give a fillip to trade activities in the area. “The proposal was mooted some eighteen years ago and the authorities had then notified the road and done its valuation. So we fail to understand what is stopping them from taking up the work,” asked the residents.
They said that though they approached the authorities many a times but to no avail. “We appeal the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter,” they added.
