Nine killed in Jalalabad blasts and gun battle


Kabul: Militants attacked a provincial government building in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, killing at least nine people and wounding dozens, according to provincial officials.
According to a provincial official in Nangarhar Province, at least 9 people had been killed and 39 wounded.
The situation was reported to be tense as at the time of writing a gun battle still going on.
Attahullah Khogyani, the spokesman for the provincial governor of Nangarhar province, said the building belonging to the provincial finance directorate in the provincial capital, Jalalabad.
He said there were at least two explosions followed by a gun battle that was still underway, adding that security forces have surrounded the building.
Inamullah Miakhial, spokesman for the Nangarhar hospital, said at least 30 people were wounded.
Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack. Both the Taliban and a local Daesh affiliate have carried out numerous attacks in Nangarhar.
