Ball in New Delhi’s court

The All Party Meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has called upon New Delhi to declare truce during Ramadhan month and for the peaceful passage of Amarnath Yatra.
The Chief Minister urged all the participants to make a fervent appeal to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider the suggestions put forward by the politicians and announce the truce to end the bloodshed and killings in the Valley.
The mainstream politicians who participated in the APM unanimously agreed upon one thing that use of force is no solution. And New Delhi has to reconsider its Kashmir policy.
However, the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party have already turned down the truce appeal made by the Kashmir based politicians and have made it clear that “Operation All Out” would continue.
If the BJP continues with its present Kashmir policy there is no possibility about peace returning to Kashmir in the near future as the battle lines have been drawn.
New Delhi should at least consider the suggestions put forward mainly by the Kashmir based politicians rather than rejecting their ideas outrightly. If New Delhi continues to remain rigid it could serve as a big blow for the mainstream politicians. Already one among them MLA Langate Er Rashid during the APM suggested that mainstream politicians should boycott elections if New Delhi keeps on ignoring them. If New Delhi fails to address the concerns of the mainstream politicians it may find it very difficult to make credible people contest the elections.
One hopes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming visit to Jammu and Kashmir announces a political package to end uncertainty in the Valley.
