Police initiate investigation after DY SP’s allegations

Srinagar, May 4: Jammu and Kashmir police has initiated investigation after a Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) alleged that security forces damaged window panes, vehicles and other property in Anantnag, after a stone pelting incident about a km away from the spot.
Dy SP Nissar Ahmad Bakshi took to social networking website Facebook to highlight the alleged vandalism by the security forces in his and other houses at Naibasti, Anantnag.
A police spokesman said Friday afternoon that cognizance was taken after media reported about a facebook post by the officer regarding vandalism by security forces.
Taking to social networking site twitter spokesman on Official Twitter account of District Police Anantnag said “After a facebook post regarding vandalism by forces followed by the same carried in print media, Police has taken the cognizance and investigating the matter”.
The officer in the post alleged that his and several others houses were ransacked by security forces on Wednesday evening following clashes in an area about a km from there. He further said that it was the eight such instance since 2008. He also posted the photos of broken windows and damaged vehicles on his Facebook wall calling it sheer vandalism.
The post reads “Vandalism by security forces at K P Road Anantnag. Property worth lacs including windows and windowpanes of my residential house damaged. Houses/Vehicles and shops smashed and attacked by rods and rocks. This is for the 8th time since 2008 that my residential house has been damaged in such a way”.
The Dy SP further said “This is not the first time that forces damaged our property, they have been doing it regularly. Yesterday my father even pleaded at these policemen that this house belonged to a DSP, But it did not stop them from vandalizing our property”. He also posted photographs on his Facebook wall which show windows of his house damaged , windscreens of cars smashed and also of broken scooter and a bike.
The face book posted by the police officer evoked lot of response from the nitizens with many sharing it the post and also expressing solidarity with the Dy SP.
“When the houses of police officers are ransacked in such a manner. Imagine the fate of ordinary people,” some of his face book friends wrote.
The brother of Dy SP, Dr Iftkhar Bakshi a surgeon, also commented on the post and wrote“Beasts in uniform, as if they enjoy damaging public property. This is sheer hooliganism. No ccountability at all. At least someone from the district administration should take cognizance of such incidents. Mohalla committees should apprise the concerned SHO and other district admins so that there will be no such loss to the civilian property in future”.
