Rajouri, Apr 30: Development Commissioner Rajouri Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary today emphasized to make the road safety campaign initiated under the Road Safety Week a regular activity.
“The stakeholders should endeavour to make it regular activity to achieve the results envisaged under the campaign,” he said at the valedictory function of 29th Road Safety Week organised by the Motor Vehicle Department.
Present in the function were SSP Yougal Manhhas, DySp Traffic Police Rajouri Mohd Rafiq, MVD Inspectors MVD Inspector Ranjeev Bhasin and Aslam Parvez, officials of traffic police besides students, members of Press Club Rajouri members of Civil Society and Transporters.
The event also witnessed a group discussions and question-answer sessions on various aspects of road safety such as traffic rules and regulations, traffic signals, risk of over speeding, drunken driving, overloading and the role of students and civil society in spreading the message of road safety.
Dr Shahid complimented the Motor Vehicle Department for spearheading an intensive awareness campaign and asked officials of department to make it a regular activity in coordination with district police, traffic authorities and other stakeholders.
He also said the administration is very much concerned about safety of public on roads and in this connection important steps have been taken such as widening of roads, removal of encroachments along road sides, installation of delineators, conduct of safety audits of roads and creation of parking spaces to seize roadside parking for free movement of pedestrians.
Later the DCC along with SSP Rajouri and other officials felicitated the students, media persons and transporters for actively participating in the week long campaign.
