Baramulla, Apr 29: Member of Parliament Muzaffar Hussain Baig, visited Faculty of Agriculture Wadura Sopore Sunday where he inaugurated Seed Processing Centre which has come up with the financial assistance of Indian Council of Agricultural Research and also laid foundation Stone of three storied Girls Hostel having accommodation capacity for 80 girl students.
Baig took a round of the Campus where Prof. Nazeer Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-K and the Dean of the Faculty briefed and gave him detailed account of student’s experiments, field trials and seed production programmes. Following the visit, an interactive session was conducted which was participated by Officers of the University, scientific staff, non-teaching staff and students of the Faculty of Agriculture.
Speaking on the occasion, Baig described agriculture and its importance and said that Agriculture is the backbone and pivotal to food security that should be given priority by the government and the University. He advised student community to pursue their degree with zeal and dedication and come to the expectations of the society, state and the country at large. Expressing his happiness over the highest ratio of girl students at the Faculty and research /academics going on at the Faculty of Agriculture, Baig announced grant of Rs. 1 crore out of Constituency Development Fund for improving existing infrastructure, medical facilities laboratories and road connectivity within the Campus. For efficient utilization of the grant, he advised the Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir to frame comprehensive plans in this endeavour and further informed that he will take up with State & Central Government to fund for strengthening University and promised to do in future as well to this noble cause.
Earlier Prof. Nazeer Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-K gave a detailed account of university activities in teaching, research and extension. He appreciated the efforts being put forth by the University scientists, and staff in carrying out the mandated activities. Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the major achievements of the University and the contributions of scientists and staff in improving agriculture and allied sectors in the State and the contributions of students which has been source of laurels for earning recognition by the University at State and national level.
Dr. Sheikh Bilal Ahmad, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Wadoora, Sopore welcomed the Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Vice-Chancellor, Officers of the University. He also gave a brief account of the activities going on at the Faculty and land use informations.
