IUST accuses Police of unprovoked shelling on students

Srinagar, Apr 26: The peaceful demonstration was held at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) here against the high-handedness of the security forces inside the campus.
The spokesman in a statement said while the normal class work was going on, some gunshots were heard that led to panic and fear among the students and staff. As students tried to learn what happened, the government forces resorted to teargas and PAVA shelling inside the campus.
Later, students held a peaceful demonstration demanding action against the forces, the spokesman said.
Taking a strong note of the unprovoked use of tear gas and PAVA shells inside the campus, Vice Chancellor, IUST, Professor Mushtaq A. Siddiqi, said, “There was no provocation from the students as normal classwork was on in the Varsity and protests started only after firing incident led to tear gas shelling in the campus.”
