Srinagar-Leh Highway re-opens after six days

Ganderbal, Apr 25: The strategic 434Km Srinagar-Leh highway re-opened for vehicular traffic on Wednesday after remaining closed for six days due to snowfall.
Around 2.5 foot of snow had accumulated on the Zojila Pass, Meenmarg, Matayan as the area witnessed snowfall on Friday, following which the road was closed as a precautionary measure, said a traffic official. He said traffic was allowed to move on the 434-kilometre road with the improvement in weather on Wednesday.
Several light motor vehicles and trucks from Drass side were allowed towards Sonamarg in the morning around 5:00 AM, he said, adding that the vehicles from Sonamarg were allowed to move towards Kargil later in the day.
