Kishtwar, Apr 13: Reiterating his demand for reaching out to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, Member Legislative Council Firdous Tak Friday urged the union government to win the hearts and minds of the residents of this trouble torn state.
“We can fight with enemies but can’t enter into a war with our own people. Dialogue is the essence of democracy and there has only reconciliation can end the sense of alienation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir”, he said adding that PDP patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed had entered into an alliance with BJP with the hope that the strong mandate of the people will enable the two parties to end hostilities on borders and restore peace in the state.
Tak was addressing series of public meetings on the last day of his three day tour of Paddar block in Kishtwar district. The legislator, who was accompanied by senior party functionaries including Ghulam Muhammad Butt, Thakur Sujan Singh, Girdhari Lal, Muhammad Ali, Baldev Singh, Goswaoon Ram and Nepal Singh, visited Gulabgarh, Atholi, Sohal and Tayari villages where he interacted with the local population. Several people from various political parties joined PDP on the occasion.
The onus of ensuring peace in the state was on all stakeholders including separatists and opposition mainstream political parties. “The country as a whole will have to stand up and rely behind the peace loving society of this state to end bloodshed, unrest and alienation among the youth”, he said.
“Our party patron was strong votary of peace and reconciliation and he was of the firm opinion that the biggest challenge our country faces was the establishment of peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Peace has been and is the core agenda of the alliance between Peoples Democratic Party and Bhartiya Janata Party. Our vision is not only to run the government but to meet the challenge of establishing lasting peace in the region”, he said adding that it was now imperative upon the union government to initiate measures so as to win the hearts, minds and trust of people.
Tak said that the present government headed by the Chief Minister was focused on the overall development and prosperity of the rural masses and several measures have been initiated in order to uplift the socio-economic conditions of the people living in hilly and backward areas.
He referred to several schemes and measures initiated in the social welfare sectors and said that it was now obligator upon the administration to ensure that the benefit reaches to the deserving and needy people in remote areas of the state.
The PDP has not only been able to ensure pro-people and all-round development initiatives during the past three years but it has also ensured accountability and transparency in the system.
