Srinagar, Apr 13: Opposition leader Omar Abdullah on Friday asked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to sack two cabinet ministers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who had supported accused in Asifa rape-and-murder case.
Two BJP ministers- Chaudhary Lal Singh, who holds Forest and Ecology portfolio, and Chander Prakash Ganga who holds Industries and Commerce portfolio, had addressed the rally in support of the accused in minor’s rape and murder. They had also made provocative speeches in their address.
Demanding immediate ouster of the two ministers, Omar said: “Those ministers who in support of accused in Asifa case took out a rally. Those ministers who threatened police and told them that enquiry should not happen in this case. Those ministers who raised fingers at their own police force. Those ministers who said that there is a jungle raj over here. Those minters don’t have any right to stay in cabinet”.
He asked chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to act swiftly against the two ministers like she sacked former finance minister Haseeb Drabu.
“Mehbooba Mufti should act like she responded in Drabu case. I think Haseeb Drabu sahab had not done such a big crime than these two BJP ministers have done. I think if Mehbooba Mufti did bravery by sacking Drabu, today she also has to show same courage by acting against these two ministers”.
Saying PM’s intervention in the case as an “excuse”, Omar said: “This is an excuse that PM will do it like her spokesperson yesterday said… that removing them will be a decision of PM”.
He said: “PM’s decision is not regarding ministers of JK. It is decided by CM. Mehbooba Mufti has to take a decision. Is she ready to work with those ministers who are trying to save the killers of Asifa?”
