Declare ceasefire and initiate talks, Soz to Prime minister

Srinagar, Apr 11: Expressing concern over the fresh killing and injuries to civilians in security force action in Kulgam on Wednesday, former union minister and senior Congress leader Prof Saifuddin Soz demanded ceasefire and resumption of talks to restore peace in the Jammu and Kashmir.
“By killing three civilians and injuring to more than 20 civilians by the security forces in Kulgam today, the unrest in Kashmir has touched new heights. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Government must declare ceasefire and initiate talks, forthwith”, Prof Soz said in a statement here this afternoo.
He alleged the people of Kashmir have now raised a question as to how long Modi Government would allow the killings in Kashmir making it impossible to think of any democratic and electoral process in Kashmir, before the dispute is resolved.
“The continuous killings in Kashmir have caused unprecedented unrest in the minds and people in Kashmir, in one voice, seek an answer from the Modi as to how long it intends to continue with the killing of civilian population in Kashmir along with others, who are also human beings.
Prof Soz said the fact should also be known to Modi Government that a significant section of Army and para-forces also feel that bullets will never solve the problem while a meaningful dialogue will.
He said “it is high time that the Modi Government decides to talk to Kashmir, particularly with the Hurriyat leadership, without any inhibitions and without losing any further time. In fact, Modi Govt. would be well advised at this stage of crisis to declare cease-fire in Kashmir, forthwith”.
