Shehla Rashid to lead protest against blatant attempts to subvert justice

Srinagar, Apr 10: Popular student leader Shehla Rashid who is in Kashmir will stage a protest tomorrow against the ‘BJP backed criminals’ who are defending the rape and murder accused in Kathua.
“Yesterday, we witnessed with shock how, once again, an attempt was made to deny justice to 8-yr old innocent Ashifa Bano when, on the call of Bar Association Kathua, some lawyers backed by the BJP tried to prevent the Crime Branch from filing a chargesheet against the accused. It is horrifying to see how blatant attempts to save the rapists are being made, first by Cabinet Ministers belonging to BJP, and then by lawyers backed by the BJP. Not only this, the lawyers who were preventing the Crime branch from filing a chargesheet were chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ in court premises. This is reminiscent of the manner in which Shambhulal Regar, the Hindutva gang member who murdered an innocent labourer, Afrazul, in Rajasthan was being shielded. Bajrang Dal members took over the Udaipur High Court premises when he was being produced amid similar slogans. This shows how BJP is spreading communal venom to distort cases of basic justice. This is an issue over which everyone should be united, but it is sadly being defended and distorted by some elements,” Shehla Rashid said in a statement.
“In this regard, we would like to invite you to a united protest and sit-in demonstration at Sri Pratap Park, Srinagar at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, 11th of April, 2018,” the statement reads.
She added that the purpose of the protest is to register our voice against the blatant attempts to subvert justice in this case, and to seek speedy justice for the victim. Students and youth from different communities, civil society organizations, and women’s groups are expected to join the protest. (CNS)
