Srinagar, Mar 30: Reacting to a report that Rs 10.36 crore was spent on the salary of the policemen guarding and protecting separatists leaders in the last about 10 years, moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq said that the government is free to take back its police cover.
Don’t play politics over it, he added.
Mirwaiz alleged that it was yet another sustained attempt to discredit leadership to disillusion people. “Be it the viscous National Investigation Agency (NIA) smear campaign which proved to be a flop show or the “police security cover” propaganda. These devious tactics won’t keep the people away from me or me away from them and the freedom movement,” Mirwaiz wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
“Govt free to take back its police cover and stop playing politics over it!” he added.
Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir told the Lok Sabha in a written reply on Thursday that Jammu and Kashmir government provides security cover to separatists in the state and the Central government has nothing to do with it.
Data presented last month in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly stated that Rs 10.88 crore was spent on the security of separatist leaders, including moderate Mirwaiz, Abdul Gani Bhat, Moulana Abbas Ansari and others separatist leaders.
