Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti seems to be upset due to the Kashmir facing alienation and only gun being used to deal with the situation.Addressing inaugural function of 64th Travel Agents Association of India here Mehboba said, “Our situation is known to all. If any untoward incident happens anywhere in the state it is blown out of proportion which creates scare among tourist.”
She accused a few news channels about creating hype about the Kashmir situation and propagating lies. It looks like that Chief Minister is unhappy with the way situation in Kashmir is being handled by  New Delhi. Her grudge is genuine. She knows that all is not well within the Kashmir and the negative role being played by the media is hurting the interests of Kashmir. It has hurt the tourism sector in the Valley.
Tourism industry is the backbone of Kashmir’s economy and thousands of people associated with this industry are suffering due to tourists not visiting the Valley.
“We are facing problems. If an encounter is happening in a far-away place of Kashmir, tourists get call from their family about their safety as TV channels disproportionately play up the news,’ the Chief Minister said. “Channels like Times Now, Republic, News X, India Today show the situation in a way as if whole Jammu and Kashmir is on fire.”
During the past three years there has been a tremendous decline in the number of tourists visiting Kashmir. It has evoked concern among the stakeholders and they have kept their fingers crossed. As the tourist season is about to commence everyone is waiting for the revival of the tourism industry in Kashmir. One hopes that people sitting in New Delhi and other states stop paying heed towards the negative propaganda and start visiting Kashmir again.
