SMC’s week-long sanitation drive culminates

Srinagar, Mar 27: A week long sanitation drive organised by SMC culminated here at Government Girls Higher secondary School Nawakadal.
Joint Commissioner Adm SMC Syed Abul Qasim presided over the function that was organized by Nawakadal School.
The school throughout the week long drive has organised debates on IEC, hazardous effects of polythene, Painting/essay competitions and other environment related topics for which cash prizes and awards were distributed today by Joint Commissioner Adm SMC.
While interacting with the students Qasim laid emphasis on taking up more such initiatives where more awareness can be created on IEC activities and requested students to be part of Swachh Bharat Mission for desired results of sanitation particularly waste segregation at source.
He further said that youth especially students can play a greater role in spreading awareness about ban on polythene as well. These students have to act as change agents in order to safeguard the environment and the future generations as well.
At least fifteen hundred students participated in the event. Some senior Municipal Officers including Exn Mechanical Engineer Itrat Naseem Chief Sanitation Officer Mudasir Banday.
Earlier Commissioner SMC Riyaz Ahmed Wani Kick-started the drive in the school. (KNS)
