Srinagar, Mar 25: A man, who was attacked by his nephew during a brawl over a land dispute on Friday, passed away at a hospital in Srinagar, Sunday afternoon, police said.
The free-for-all brawl– after Friday’s congregational prayers– in Rafiabad, north to Srinagar, had seen members of Khan clan attacking each other with agricultural tools.
Raja Sher Ahmad Khan, the deceased was on way to his agricultural holding when his nephew, Raja Nisar Khan, hit him with a shovel, police said.
Sher Ahmad died at the hospital and had deep head wounds, doctors treating him at the Sheri-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences said.
He was briefly admitted at the district hospital in Baramulla, doctors quickly had shifted Sher Ahmad to the biggest hospital in the entire region. He remained in coma, doctors informed.
In Rafiabad, the villagers are in shock. The murder has disturbed the well-knit residents, says Sher Ahmad’s neighbour, Gul. I don’t know how one can kill his kin, she laments. “…for us everything has been destroyed now. His nephew always wanted to usurp our land,” Sher Ahmad’s unnamed relative told a local news wire.
A police officer, Dilraj Singh, said that two people have been booked for murder. “We are investigating the matter, the accused attacker has been arrested,” Singh, the station house officer, says.
