Jammu, Mar 14: Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA, Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar today inaugurated two Model Legal Literacy Clubs at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Shastri Nagar and Government Higher Secondary School, Domana.
Vinod Chatterji Koul, Chairman DLSA (Pr. District & Sessions Judge), Jammu, R N Wattal, Member-Secretary J&K, SLSA, Commissioner/Secretary School Education, Farooq Shah, Municipal Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar, SSP Jammu, Addl. Deputy Commissioner Jammu and Zonal Director, Narcotics Control Bureau were also present on the occasion.
While inaugurating the Legal Literacy Clubs, Justice Sudhakar emphasized the objective of carrying the message of Legal Awareness and empowerment vis-a-vis Legal rights and duties. He enlightened about importance of Legal Literacy as a contributing factor to ensure justice and promote legal empowerment of the society for the purpose of safeguarding their rights.
Besides inaugurating the Literacy Club, a Herbal Garden was also inaugurated by Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA at Government Higher Secondary School, Domana.
The students/members of the Club were motivated by the Commissioner/Secretary, School Education regarding the concept of legal literacy and education as a tool for bringing qualitative change at the student level so that such awareness can further act as an instrument for combating injustice of any nature in the society. He also announced construction of auditoriums, one each at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Shastri Nagar and Government Higher Secondary School, Domana in presence of Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA.
As an outreach initiative undertaken by DLSA, Jammu under the directions of NALSA and J&K State Legal Services Authority, two Legal Aid Clinics were also opened at Government College for Women, Parade, Jammu and at K.C Law College, Jammu on March 12. The Legal Aid Clinics were inaugurated by Executive Chairman J&K SLSA, Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar.
While addressing the students of the College, the Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA impressed upon the objective of the Legal Aid Clinics and the participation of the students at college level for the purpose of their empowerment and encouraging them to make others also aware of their legal rights and duties.
On the occasion, a Campaign “Student Movement to Eradicate Drugs and Liquor Abuse” was also initiated under the directions of the Executive Chairman J&K SLSA. Instructions were given to the teachers-in-charge, Secretary DLSA, Jammu and the PLV’s/ Retainer Lawyers for working in coordination to identify the problems and redress of the same.
Simultaneously, two Legal Literacy Clubs were also inaugurated by His Lordships at Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School Mubarak Mandi on 12-03-2018 and at S.R.M.L. Hr. Secondary School, Jammu on 13-03-2018, with the objective of carrying the message of Legal Awareness and empowerment vis-a-vis rights and duties as enshrined in the constitution.
Executive Chairman J&K SLSA impressed upon the objective of the Legal Literacy Club and the participation of the students at school level for the purpose of their empowerment and encouraging them to make others also aware of their legal rights and duties. Many students of the school enrolled as members of the club and undertook to take up the topics as per the NALSA guidelines, 2018 for effectively ensuring that marginalised sections of the society have an access to justice.
