IPL 2018: Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag can help me with captaincy, says R Ashwin

Newly-appointed Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin is confident that leadership tips from Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh will help him immensely in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
This year, the off-spinner will lead a side in IPL for the first time. However, he will also have the services of mentor Sehwag and senior player Yuvraj.
“For me, it is all about incorporating whatever I have learnt over the years. I have played under lot of captains including Viru paaji. My focus is on being strategically ahead of other captains,” said Ashwin.
“Both Yuvi and Viru paaji have been my captains at different stages of my career. I played under Yuvi paaji in my first Challenger Trophy and he has played a big role in whoever I am today. Learning from experiences and taking advice is something I am never been averse to,” the off-spinner added.

Speaking to India Today, the 31-year-old thanked the management for bucking the trend of appointing a batsman as captain.
It feels great and I’ve got the leadership as a responsibility for myself at Kings XI this time, said Ashwin. I really have to thank each one of them, who trusted me and handed over the leadership to me against the cliche of getting the batsmen to captain the sides.
So would being a bowler-captain bean advantage for him? Ashwin said his focus will be on helping other bowlers with his knowledge of the game.
Advantages and disadvantages are for experts to dissect and talk about. But all the 20 overs will be bowled by bowlers and bowlers know how their fields needs to be set and we can control all the nine people. The answer is yours to have a vantage point to say who’s actually got to lead a T20 side, said Ashwin.
From my own side I have always set fields on my own. I take pride in setting my own field and I really enjoy share my knowledge with all the bowlers. So I’ll intend to do the same and take the bowling unit as forward as possible.
