MeT predicts rain-snow in J&K, admin issues avalanche warning

Srinagar, Mar 13: A fresh avalanche warning has been issued on Tuesday evening for next 24 hours in the Jammu and Kashmir, including on the national highway, the only road linking the valley with the rest of the country.
Meanwhile, Met department has issued a forecast for light rain or snow at many places in the state during the next 24 hours followed by scattered to widespread wet weather during subsequent two days.
An official spokesman said here this evening that on the basis of information received from SASE, Medium danger avalanche warning has been issued for next 24 hrs for Kupwara-Chowkibal-Tangdhar, Baramulla, Gulmarg, Furkian-Z Gali, Gurez, Bandipora in north Kashmir.
He said low danger warning has been issued for Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban,Doda, Kishtwar and Udhampur in Jammu region and Anantnag, Kulgam, Budgam, Ganderbal in Kashmir valley. Besides low danger warning has been issued for Kargil and Leh in Ladakh region which remained cut off from Kashmir valley due to closure of Srinagar-Leh national highway since December last year.
Similar warning has been issued for Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, which is open for only one-way traffic for the past several months.
People living in these avalanche prone areas have been advised by the Disaster Management Authority to take precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, Met department spokesman said this evening that there could be light rain or snow at many places in the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. Scattered to widespread rain or snow could occur in the state during subsequent two days, he said.
There could be light rain or snow and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 14 degree and 5 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in summer capital, Srinagar, where the mercury remained above normal despite partially cloudy sky today.
Light rain or thundershowers is predicted in winter capital, Jammu, where the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 24 degree and 15 degree respectively during the next 24 hours.
At Leh in Ladakh region the sky would be generally cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 12 degree and minus 2 degree respectively during the next 24 hours.
