Srinagar, Mar 12: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is leaving no stone unturned to politicize the rape and murder case of a minor nomad girl in Kathua.
Despite Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti rejecting the demand of the BJP ministers to handover the Kathua case to the Central Bureau of Investigation, the union minister of state at Prime Minister’s Office and senior BJP leader, Dr Jitendra Singh raked up the issue again by stating: “The probe into the incident be conducted as per wishes of the people.”
The BJP leaders are claiming that people of Kathua are demanding that case should be handed over to the CBI as they don’t trust Crime Branch, which has already arrested five persons, including four policemen, in connection with the case.
The Hindu Ekta Manch, spearheading the agitation for a CBI probe, too has come under scanner as the Crime Branch is trying to establish the link between the protesters and the accused.
The mastermind behind the brutal rape and murder of the victim has already been identified. The Crime Branch has presented the status report before the High Court and next date of hearing has been fixed as March 14th.
The CB in its report, according to the sources, has stated that heinous crime was committed with an aim to “drive out the nomads from a village dominated by a particular community.”
An analyst while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “Crime Branch has almost completed the probe into the case and is likely to submit present the challan. One fails to understand why BJP leaders are objecting to it. On one hand they claim that they want stern punishment for the accused on the other hand they are writing off the probe conducted by the Crime Branch. It’s strange.”
He said, “By opposing the probe being conducted by the Crime Branch BJP leaders are siding with the accused and the saffron party leaders are trying to shield them. By doing so they are doing disservice to the BJP and are maligning the party’s image.”
A Kashmir watcher said, “BJP should stop politicizing the Kathua issue. If they keep on raking it a notion would be created that BJP supports rapists and the murderers. They should allow the law to take its own course. They should allow the CB to present the challan and let the court decide whether the accused are innocent or guilty.”
He said, “If BJP leaders keep on building pressure at its coalition ally, Peoples Democratic Party it can lead to coalition crumbling under its own weight.”
