Former India captain Sachin Tendulkar heaped praise on Mumbai’s young sensation and India’s Under-19 World Cup winning captain Prithvi Shaw.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the inaugural T20 Mumbai League, Tendulkar said: “I saw Prithvi Shaw play in New Zealand (in the U19 World Cup). How he has progressed is remarkable.”
The 19-year-old, who was in attendance at the Wankhede Stadium, will be a proud man after getting praised by the Master Blaster himself. Shaw will play for the North Mumbai Panthers in the six-team T20 League under Ajinkya Rahane.
Shaw was in tremendous touch in the U-19 World Cup in New Zealand. He scored 261 runs from six games and led from the front in India’s fourth U-19 World Cup triumph. Following his impressive form, he was snapped up by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 1.20 crore in the IPL player auction.
He burst onto the scene as a teenager back in 2013, when he scored 546 in a Harris Shield game. He already has five first-class hundreds even before turning an adult, since making his debut on the first day of last year for Mumbai in the semi-finals of the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy. He scored a ton in the second innings and even named as the ‘man’ of the match. He also scored a century on debut in the Duleep Trophy, equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s for scoring centuries in debuts of Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy.
