Artificial glaciers eased lives of farmers in Ladakh: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Mar 11: Applauding Chewang Norphel, a civil engineer, for developing artificial glaciers to help solve the water problem of agricultural settlements in Ladakh, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said his innovative thought process has eased the lives of many farmers.
“The reality of #ClimateChange is here & how! We need more people like Chewang Norphel, a civil engineer who developed artificial glaciers to help solve the water problem of agricultural settlements in Ladakh. His innovative thought process has eased the lives of many farmers,” Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
80-year-old Norphel, nicknamed Ice Man, has built over 15 artificial glaciers in Ladakh region. Norphel, who was awarded the Padma Shri in 2015, was also recognised for his achievements by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2011.
