Night temp improves, day remains pleasant in Valley

Srinagar, Mar 8: The night temperature improved though settled below normal at majority of the places in Kashmir valley, which is experiencing summer-like weather due to sunshine.
The border town of Kargil was the coldest place in the region at minus 7.5 degree, followed by Leh, where mercury settled at minus 5.7 degree.
A Met department spokesperson said that light rain or snow would occur at one or two places in the higher reaches during the next 24 hours in the state. However, he said weather will remain dry during the subsequent 48 hours from Friday.
The night temperature in Kargil dipped about a degree from Wednesday and settled at minus 7.5 degree. Even though the neighbouring town of Leh witnessed some improvement in the night temperature, it was the second coldest place in the region at minus 5.7 degree, against minus 6.6 degree recorded on Wednesday.
World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, also witnessed some improvement in the night temperature, which settled 2 degree above normal. Against minus 3.2 degree recorded on Wednesday, the night temperature in the ski resort was minus 1.5 degree.
Even though the summer capital, Srinagar, witnessed an improvement of about a degree from Wednesday in the night temperature, it was still about a degree below normal. Against 1.6 degree recorded on Wednesday, the night temperature in Srinagar was 2.4 degree. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature recorded in the summer capital was 5 degree above normal.
He said skies will be partly cloudy during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 19 degree and 3 degree, respectively.
The night temperature at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, improved and settled at minus 1.5 degree, against minus 2.9 degree recorded on Wednesday.
The mercury at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag improved and settled at 1.4 degree, minus 0.5 degree and 3.8 degree, respectively.
