Police arrest notorious drug peddler 1.6 kgs charas recovered

Srinagar, Mar 6: Continuing with the special drive against drug abuse/sale of psychotropic substances in the district, special team of District Police Kupwara has achieved another success by arresting 01 notorious drug peddler from Shumnag area and recovered 1.6 kgs of Charas from his possession.
The arrested person has been identified as Abdul Khaliq Payer R/o Shumnag District Kupwara. Case FIR No. 05/2018 u/s 8/20 NDPS act has been registered in P/S Trehgam and further investigation is in progress.
During the year 2017, under special drive, Kupwara Police has recovered 4.5 Kgs of Brown Sugar, 2 Kgs of Heroine, 31 Kgs of Charas, 1 Kg Bhuki, and other Psychotropic substances and 54 drug peddlers have been arrested.
A cross LoC narcotic smugglers module was also busted and 04 notorious drug /narcotic smugglers were arrested. One notorious drug peddler has been booked under PSA. During the year 2018, 7.6 Kgs of Charas and 500 gms of Heroine have been recovered and 05 drug peddlers including a notorious lady drug peddler have been arrested so far.
Residents of Kupwara district have expressed their gratitude to J&K Police Chief Dr. S.P Vaid, IPS, under whose directions and guidance J&K Police is committed to eradicate drug menace from the society.
According to locals drug menace is ruining and effecting the career and health of the young generation who are future of the country. People of the Kupwara have also eulogized the role of Kupwara Police for launching effective campaign against drug peddlers and sale of psychotropic substances in the district.
District Police Kupwara has appealed the local residents to come forward and help the police to eradicate this menace from the society. The anti-drug drive shall continue to make the society drug free which is one of commandments of J&K Police for 2018. (PTK)
