Day weather improves in Kashmir, night remains above normal

Srinagar, Mar 5: After witnessing chilly weather conditions due to rain and snow during the past three days, the temperature during the day has improved considerably as sun came out much to the delight of the people in Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, the night temperature dipped due to clear skies though remained above normal across Kashmir valley, where the weather will remain dry during the next 48 hours.
A Met department spokesperson said that weather will remain dry during the next 24 hours in Kashmir, which could result in dip in the night temperature.
Even though world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, witnessed some improvement in the night temperature, it was still the coldest place in the region. Against minus 5.6 degree recorded on Sunday, the night temperature at Gulmarg, where ski slopes are under several feet of snow, improved and settled at minus 5 degree, which is slightly above normal.
However, the mercury at the border town of Kargil and Leh in Ladakh region dipped and settled at minus 4.2 degree and minus 4.6 degree.
He said skies will be mainly clear during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 9 degree and minus 2 degree, respectively.
After witnessing slight dip in the night temperature, people woke up to a sunny Monday morning in the summer capital, Srinagar. However, as the day progressed sun played hide and seek though temperature remained pleasant. The night temperature in Srinagar dipped and settled at 4.1 degree, against 4.7 degree recorded on Sunday. The temperature in Srinagar was 2 degree above normal.
The spokesperson said that skies will be mainly clear with haze during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 12 degree and 4 degree, respectively.
The night temperature at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, dipped and settled at minus 1.2 degree, against 0.3 degree recorded on Sunday. Though, the temperature was still a degree above normal.
The mercury at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag dipped and settled at 2.6 degree, 2.4 degree and 2.6 degree, respectively.
