Srinagar, Mar 4: Army on Sunday claimed to have killed a militant and three Over Ground Workers accompanying him, at Pahnoo village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Army’s Srinagar based defence ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia in a statement said that militants attacked army’s 44 RR party at Pahnoo village around 8:00 pm.
The fire was retaliated triggering off a gunfight. In the exchange of gunfire, a militant was killed, the spokesman said.
“Body of the militant was recovered along with a weapon,” he said, adding, “Three OGWs accompanying the militant in a car were also found dead.”
The spokesman said that police have reached the spot and started legal formalities.
Official sources said that all the bodies of the deceased have been taken for post-mortem and other legal medico formalities by the concerned police.
Meanwhile, Kashmir’s Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik called for Kashmir bandh on Monday against the killings in Shopian.
Following the killings Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission postponed the KAS exams scheduled on Monday (February 5), while authorities have decided to impose restrictions in Srinagar’s old city on Tuesday.
