National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party Ram Madhav stating that Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has no role to play in Indo-Pak talks has triggered a row as PDP chief spokesman Rafi Mir has blamed Madhav of ‘undermining’ status of J&K Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has always maintained that talks are the only way to resolve the issues between the two countries and she wants Jammu and Kashmir to become a bridge between the two nations.
What’s surprising is what made Madhav take on the Chief Minister suddenly? Why did he say that holding talks with Pakistan is not CM Mehbooba’s decision. Everyone knows it very well that Foreign affairs is not the domain of J&K Chief Minister but one needs to bear n mind that Mehbooba represents the people of Jammu and Kashmir and no one can stop her from putting forth her point of view.
“Talking or not talking to Pakistan is not for the Jammu and Kashmir alliance to decide, but the Government of India. Mehboobaji can have a view, because she feels that if the two governments talk to each other, there could be de-escalation of violence. But the alliance cannot take a view, its view is limited to the affairs of the state”, Ram Madhav had said.
Madhav seems to have forgotten that Mehbooba as a Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir has the full right to defend her people and see to it that they don’t suffer. The glaring fact is that people of Jammu and Kashmir are suffering due to increasing hostilities between India and Pakistan. They are the ones who are suffering due to cross border shelling and increase in militant activities. Mehbooba as Chief Minister cannot turn a blind eye towards her people.
