Jammu, Feb 25: Principal Sessions Judge, Rajouri, Shahzad Azeem has awarded life-imprisonment to Zahroon Kouser who murdered her husband’s first wife.
According to the police, during investigation it was found that Zamurd Begum was married to Abdul Majid around 28 years ago and had three daughters.
In order to fulfill the urge for male baby, Abdul Majid with the consent of Zamurd solemnised second marriage with accused.
However, for two months after marriage, the relations between the deceased and accused remained cordial but thereafter, altercations between the two picked up.
Principal Sessions Judge, Rajouri observed that convict was sent up for trial in the year 2011 and continuously for the last seven years, she has been facing the trial.
During all these seven years, nothing adverse is reported by the Jail authorities or escorting party which would cast doubt upon her chances of rehabilitation or reformation.
The Court further observed that ”Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future.” Keeping in view the circumstances discussed, including the age of the convict, the Court was of the opinion that lesser punishment would serve the purpose and the case is not one which calls for extreme death penalty or harsh punishment.
With these observations, the Court awarded life-imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 to the convicted lady.
