Baramulla, Feb 21: Bar members Baramulla condemned the statement of Superintendent Vijay Chowdhary in which he had proposed to shift the Post Office Pass port Seva kendra from Baramulla to Bandipora district.
Under the chairmanship of Patron Advocate Habibullah Naikoo, President Advocate Hilal Ahmad and Coordinator Neelofar Masood the protesting members of Bar Association Baramulla, held a protest march at Baramulla and marched from District Court Complex Baramulla up to Deputy Commissioners Office, where they submitted a representation before DC Baramulla besides mailing it to External Affairs Ministry New Delhi and Department of Posts.
The protest program was held after the news in media regarding shifting of POPSK from Baramulla to Bandipora fumed the residents of Baramulla. The news regarding the shifting of the already sanctioned Pass Port Kendra at head post office Baramulla to sub post office Bandipora, fumed the residents who want a serious action against the postal official for issuing “baseless statements.”
The members of Bar Association Baramulla expressed their deep anguish over the aforesaid news item and impressed upon the concerned authorities that they shall not shift the POPSK from Baramulla to Bandipora as it would prove detrimental for the people of Baramulla and its adjacent areas.
General Secretary Bar Association Baramulla Advocate Aazim Pandith said that the bar members Wednesday held a meeting at Court complex Baramulla where it was decided that a peaceful protest will be held against the Department of Posts and a representation be submitted to DC Baramulla.
“The statement of SP Baramulla Post Office that they don’t have space here at Head Post Office Baramulla is against reason, logic and strategic position of Baramulla. He should have at least thoroughly checked for the space at the office. If policy makers have proposed the name of Baramulla after due consideration, it is beyond imagination as why Superintendent Head post office Baramulla refusing the space. This is against the norms and must be keenly checked, ”Aazim Pandith said.
Advocate Aazim said that Baramulla is centrally located place and has a strategic location as compared to other places.
“It is better to visit Srinagar Passport Office than Bandipora for a person who comes from Uri, Tangmarg or for that matter Baramulla. Baramulla is the headquarter and a hub of business as international trade runs through this town also, so our demand is that the pass port Kendra Seva shall be made functional here at Baramulla only,” he added.
