Finally Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has put the speculations to rest that campus of the Central University of Kashmir would be shifted from Ganderbal district.
Mehbooba said there are difficulties in the construction at the present site at Tulmulla village of Ganderbal and the administration has been tasked to identify an “alternate suitable site” within the district. “Central university construction site in Ganderbal has experienced minor difficulties. Administration has been tasked with identifying alternate/additional suitable sites within Ganderbal. Absolutely no question of shifting it anywhere else,” Mehbooba wrote on twitter.
Rumors’ were rife that CUK campus would be shifted to some other district. Some people were even propagating that CUK site would be shifted to south Kashmir as the Peoples Democratic Party led government wants to regain its hold in its bastion.
Chief Minister’s statement has made it clear that there is no such plan and CUK would come up in the district.
Since the day central government sanctioned CUK for Kashmir division lot of politics has been played over it. Initially Jammu people went on strike to demand Central University for Jammu. The then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah approached the Central government and got another Central University sanctioned for Jammu. The Central University in Jammu is functioning smoothly but the Central University in Kashmir is still caught in the midst of controversies. The site which was identified for its construction in Ganderbal district for the construction of the campus is believed to be technically unfit and the irony is that already a few structures have come up there. Campus being shifted to some other place in the district means more delay. Ganderbal people can be rest assured that CUK is not going anywhere but the fact is that it would take a few more years for CUK campus to come up in the district.
