The snowfall in February month has brought the smiles on the faces of people in the Valley. The Western Disturbance which hit the Valley recently has brought back the chill and the widespread precipitation has replenished the water resources.
The snowfall has led to the closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway and authorities have not been able to make it motorable for the past three days. If the highway remains closed for a few more days there is every possibility about Valley witnessing shortage of essential commodities and other items.
Heavy snowfall in February month took everyone by a surprise as many people had written off the snow. Winter has arrived but bit late. The administration has to ensure that till the Srinagar-Jammu highway reopens stocks do last and people don’t face any difficulty. People have already started complaining that things are vanishing from the market and prices have started skyrocketing.
People are hoping that Highway is thrown open for traffic without any further delay. It’s not for the first time that Srinagar-Jammu highway has got blocked. It usually gets blocked in the winter months. Government always makes tall claims that all is well but at the end of the day these claims are punctured.
Shortage of essential commodities is a matter of concern and authorities should ensure that this burning issue is addressed and the black marketers are dealt with an iron fist.
Weatherman has already issued another warning and the people at the helm have already announced that getting the highway cleared is not going to be an easy job. Authorities have to ensure that they manage the situation till the normalcy is restored.
