Shopian observes partial shutdown over arrest of two youths

Srinagar, Feb 8: Shopian town on Thursday observed a partial shutdown against the arrest of two youth during night raids.
Eyewitnesses said that all shops and business establishments remained partially closed in main town Shopian due to a spontaneous shutdown against the arrest of two youths.
The two arrested youths have been arrested as Ghulam Jeelani Gattoo of Malik Mohalla, Shopian and Zubair Ahmad Mir of Bonbazar, Shopian.
According to reports, minor clashes erupted in Batpora Shopian. Police fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters but they offered stiff resistance and continued pelting stones. The clashes in the area continued for several hours.
In the incident, Asif Ahmad of Kachdoora village suffered pellet wounds and was hospitalized.
SSP Shopian Shri Ram Ambarkar when contacted said that the arrested youths are “chronic” stone-pelters and were involved in several incidents of stone pelting on forces. (GNS)
