Jammu, Feb 7: Health Minister Bali Bhagat was Wednesday caught on a wrong foot after PDP MLA challenged that he would resign if the information given by the minister “on the shortage of doctors was correct”.
PDP MLA from Wachi Aijaz Ahmad Mir had sought details of the sanctioned staff and staff in position at various Primary Health Centers and Community Health Centers in his constituency.
The minister in his reply while giving the details said that all the PHCs and CHCs have exact number of in position staff of doctors against the total strength. However, to this the MLA said these all details are a “bunch of lies” and challenged the minister that “I will resign if the information provided by you is found correct.”
“With due respect to the minister, I challenge if the information is found correct, I will resign,” Mir told the house.
Mir asked the minister that for his information, “Dr Nargis is absconding for two years, Dr Ismail is working in District Hospital Shopian, and Dr Shayak is in Saudi Arabia for the last six months,” he said.
The Deputy Speaker Nazir Gurezi later deferred the calling attention and asked the health minister to furnish correct details tomorrow. (KNS)
