Srinagar, Feb 6: Weather woos will continued during the night as the minimum temperature remained several degree below freezing point though the mercury during the day further improved due to sunshine in Kashmir valley.
However, Kargil was the coldest place in the region at minus 15 degree while the maximum temperature in the bordering town also remained below freezing point.
A Met department spokesperson said that the weather will remain dry during the next 48 hours. However, he said a fresh Western Disturbance (WD), which originated from the Arabian Sea and is approaching the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, is expected to hit the state on Friday. “Under the influence of this WD, rain and snow could occur in the valley,” he added.
Even though there was an improvement of about a degree from Monday in the night temperature, people continued to shiver at Kargil, where the mercury settled at minus 15 degree. The maximum temperature recorded in the border town was minus 1 degree on Monday. Against minus 8.7 degree recorded on Monday, the night temperature at neighbouring town of Leh was minus 8.5 degree.
After witnessing below 3 degree night temperature, people woke up to a sunny Tuesday morning in the summer capital, Srinagar. Against minus 3.3 degree recorded on Monday, the night temperature at the summer capital was minus 3.5 degree. However, people are enjoying summer-like weather from last couple of days in Srinagar, where the maximum temperature was 5 degree above normal on Monday.
The mercury at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, dipped and settled at minus 7.6 degree, against minus 7.5 degree recorded on Monday. The night temperature at the ski resort was about a degree below normal.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to the valley and Kupwara in north Kashmir improved marginally and settled minus 3 degree and minus 4.2 degree, respectively.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, also witnessed an improvement of about a degree from Monday and settled above normal. Against minus 6.1 degree recorded on Monday, the night temperature at Pahalgam was minus 4.7 degree.
