Ganderbal, Feb 4: There is a simmering discontent among the residents of several areas of Ganderbal district particularly the Kangan and Gund tehsil over the unscheduled power-cuts by the Power Development Department (PDD).
The residents of areas like Kangan , Ganiwan, Gund, Kullan and Haknar,Kullan,Rayil said the frequent power cuts have put them to immense inconvenience.
“The electricity is playing hide and seek for the past one month, particularly in the morning and evening hours,” the complainants said.
The residents of these areas said their children, appearing in the ongoing examinations, were the worst sufferers.
“Our children are unable to study properly in absence of power,” said a resident of Gund.
“It’s unfortunate that the authorities resort to unscheduled power cuts in the morning and evening hours, which is the ideal time to study.” he said.
Many students complained that the power-cuts were badly affecting their studies. “How can we study in absence of power? Instead of resorting to power cuts, the PDD should ensure uninterrupted power supply these days keeping in view the examination session,” they said.
The students demanded that the PDD should ensure uninterrupted power supply.
“We can’t understand why power cuts take place only when examinations happen to be at peak. The government should look into the issue and ensure round-the-clock power supply,” said a student.
They said in absence of power, they were unable to get up early for studies.
“Instead of imposing power cuts during morning and evening hours, the PDD should do it during the daytime so that the student fraternity doesn’t suffer. These power cuts can ruin careers of hundreds of students,” She said.
The residents of Kangan said the power situation worsened since December last year.
“We were getting power as per the schedule, but now we don’t know what the schedule is,” they said.
