Police seize 18 quintals of PDS rice seized in Soura Gang of black marketers, CAPD employee held

 

Srinagar, Feb 2: A routine Naka was laid by SHO police station Soura Ayaz Rasool Geelani under the supervision of SDPO Hazratbal Rameez Rashid Bhat near SKIMS chowk Soura. During naka checking one Passenger Auto bearing Registration No.JK01S-5376 was intercepted and during checking it was found loaded with Six Sealed Gunny bags of PDS Rice. The auto was driven by one person namely Tanveer Ahmad Beigh R/o Shah Mohalla Ahmednagar and another person namely Mohammad Ashraf Shah @ Aashiq Shah R/O Bewara Danmar Sangam Srinagar was boarding the auto .The duo were arrested and auto was seized on spot. In this regard case FIR No. 15/2018 U/s 409, 411,120-B RPC stands registered in Police Station Soura and investigation taken up.
During the course of Investigation arrested persons disclosed that they had illegally bought the rice from one Government store Keeper namely Mohammad Haneef Dar R/O Awantabhawan A/P Ellahibagh Soura who runs the PDS store (Shali store) at Ellahibagh Soura. The said government store keeper was accordingly arrested and during questioning / interrogation he disclosed that he illegally sells the PDS Rice actually meant for public distribution to one person namely Bashir Ahmad Wani R/o Narwara Eidgah and accordingly during further investigation 30 Bags of PDS Rice which he had repackaged illegally into duplicate “Apple Brand” Rice Bags, One sewing machine, weighing machine and sewing thread was also recovered from the spot and accused person was arrested. The further investigation of the case is going on.
The said PDS Rice was actually meant for public distribution and this criminal breach of trust by the said accused persons causes food scarcity among the general masses and thus putting the common people into trouble and inconvenience. The accused persons were running a scandal of misappropriating PDS food grains and then selling the same PDS Rice by Repackaging / Rebranding it as “Apple Bran Rice” and selling it to gullible people on higher rates thereby earning illegal profit. This act of police has brought relief to the general masses who often face food scarcity at the hands of this mafia.
